As co-founder of CBS, Donald has worked with several hundred entrepreneurs and small business owners in Eastern, NC for the last 3 years. As a former employee of a state agency, his expertise has helped guide client's businesses, working with companies ranging in all fields and sizes. Through his experience, he saw first-hand the struggles that small business owners were facing and how the need for assistance was not being addressed. From this void CBS was born. By knowing how state agencies work and the relationships made while there, Donald Pleger found that CBS could truly offer a unique service that maximized the level of help for clients statewide. By assisting these clients in their problem fields, he shares the vision of these agencies in creating more jobs and helping clients carry out their dreams of owning a successful business. Donald Pleger worked at the Small Business Technology Development Center and specialized in business plan writing and financial modeling. He holds a B.S. in Finance and an MBA in Finance, both from East Carolina University.

My name is Don Pleger and I am the owner of Coastal Business Strategies (www.cbsplans.com), a one-stop shop for small business owners and entrepreneurs throughout North Carolina. We are a company that works side by side with state agencies (Small Business Centers, Development Centers, Commissions, etc) in assisting small business owners throughout the area in starting their small business or expanding their current business. We specialize in all of the areas of starting a small business and providing the tools and assistance you need to get on the right track to pursue your venture.
Our company is staffed with a 100% MBA workforce from award winning business plan teams and we work alongside state programs to help grow businesses in the area. We have met with Small Business Centers, banks, investors, development commissions, and other centers in discussing our services and how we have assisted several clients in getting the help they needed. My colleague and myself are past employees of a Small Business Center and we saw first hand some of the issues that entrepreneurs and business owners faced when starting their business. We found a huge market of prospective business owners who would go through months of preparation in trying to get their business plan written and a majority of them would go through this process and become less and less motivated in starting their business. The SBA states that it can take over 400 hours to write a business plan and most of this time is spent learning how to write the plan than creating the plan itself. An entrepreneur is typically required to have some type of a business plan to get a request for counseling through these agencies and we found a huge number of people who weren't able to create their plan whether it was due to time constraints, lack of resources, overwhelmed by the plan, weak business writing, or other scenarios that prevented them from getting started. We started our business after the idea was presented to us by various business counselors in addressing this need and creating a business in which we can write business plans for our clients while teaching them all of the steps and principles along the way. We offer all types of affordable and confidential services (business plan creation, grant writing, web development, mobile apps, and a lot more) and all of our work is made custom for our clients. Since we are past employees of state agencies that assist small businesses, we refrain from just writing a business plan for our customers and giving them the finished product. We coach all of our clients throughout the process in helping them understand more about the plan and to confidentially understand all facets of their business. Our clients have referred to our service as a crash course in learning how to write a business plan while receiving a plan that is financially strong and feasible for lenders and investors.
